Mount Maunganui & Papamoa Beach
At the tip of a peninsula, across the harbour from Tauranga City, lies Mauo (Mount Maunganui), a dormant volcano which holds significant importance to local Maori. Mauo has been known for over 600 years as a place of protection and refuge.
Mount Maunganui now covers a huge area and a number of thriving business centres. The Mount, as it is more commonly known to the locals, is now classed as a centre of its own, leaving residents and visitors little need to venture across the bridge to neighbouring Tauranga. Papamoa Beach is also close by and only a few minutes' drive from our accommodation.

Climb The Mount
The Mount is known for its beautiful beaches and amazing scenery. If you have the time, venture up the mountain for panoramic views, stretching for miles in every direction. If you don’t see yourself climbing to the top, take the more relaxed option and take a stroll around the base of the mountain. This walk also has stunning views of the harbour, from a range of different angles.
Pure New Zealand Beaches
The surf beach along the east cost of Mount Maunganui is the place to be for every beach related activity! Take the kids down and build some huge sandcastles, and a picnic lunch, while you take the surfboard out to ride the waves. Or watch the many activities that are held at the beach, from surf lifesaving, to triathlons and boat racing. The beach is a hive of activity all year round. For younger children, or those wanting a calm beach, visit Pilot Bay on the harbour side of Mount Maunganui.

Retail Therapy
There is a range of shopping centers close to Boatshed Motel Apartments. Bayfair is the closest; an indoor shopping centre, with something for the whole family.
A short drive down the beach is Papamoa’s Fashion Island shopping center, showcasing the best fashion stores in the bay. Downtown the Mount offers a range of gift shops and boutique stores.
Shop till you drop in the morning, followed by a short walk to the Mount beach for an afternoon of swimming, surfing and sun bathing. |
